The position Toto finds himself in these days could be an excellent example of overcoming a major disappointment. His fascination for motorsport was sparked at a Formula three race at the age of seventeen, but the entrepreneur before long had to come to terms with not having found his vocation in the sport – despite marking a category win at the 1994 twenty four Hours Nürburgring, he felt his skillset wasn’t quite right for a career as an expert driver. He went on to pursue a career in banking, dedicating himself to assembling up his own investment firms in 1998 and 2004.Fast-forward a few years, and several other steps towards merging the investment business together with his passion for sport, Toto is appointed Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport at the end of 2013. He currently has full responsibility for the complete Mercedes-Benz motorsport program, from Formula One to DTM, sports cars, the Formula three engine program – and a team of 1200 folks. He holds a 33% share in Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport Formula One Team . With a net worth of 700 million he has a plethora of investments in various avenues . Some Investments include the German HWA AG that runs the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race program for Mercedes-Benz. Other investments include BRR Rallye Racing, one of the largest rally parts dealers in Europe. Wolff is also co-owner of a racing driver management company with former F1 champion Mika Häkkinen.The booming F1 entrepreneur describes himself as being in an exceedingly constant loop of self-judgment, finding it vital to check himself in a realistic light. What he will never do is take risks. “I attempt to produce a worst-case situation and if I can deal with that state of affairs, I launch myself into the project.” Characterizing himself as a half-empty glass kind of guy, Toto is convinced that in order to succeed, “you ought to never feel too comfortable, because that leads you to think that the task at hand is simple and that is the moment you are going to fail.”
